MIOG-NP Nairobi Roadshow Promotes Technical Training

Kenya Pipeline Company Plc (KPC Plc) Acting Managing Director and CEO, Mr. Pius Mwendwa, flagged off the inaugural MIOG-NP Nairobi Roadshow on 16th October 2026. The initiative aimed to raise awareness of technical training, international certification and career opportunities.

Organised in partnership with Cape Media, the roadshow began at MIOG-NP’s Nairobi Campus along Nanyuki Road, Industrial Area. It then covered City Stadium, Jua Kali, Kariokor, Ngara and Allsops before proceeding to Donholm via Juja Road.

Through this outreach, MIOG-NP engaged prospective students, skilled artisans and local communities. Moreover, the initiative highlighted training opportunities designed to meet industry needs.

KPC Strengthens Technical Skills Development

Speaking during the flag-off, Mr. Mwendwa reaffirmed KPC Plc’s commitment to developing a skilled workforce. He emphasised the need to prepare Kenyan professionals for opportunities in the energy sector and beyond.

“At KPC Plc, we are committed to powering Kenya’s economic growth and supporting regional industrial development. Through Morendat Institute of Oil & Gas National Polytechnic, we are investing in the development of highly skilled technical professionals who can meet international industry standards and compete for opportunities both locally and globally,” he said.

Furthermore, Mr. Mwendwa highlighted emerging opportunities in Kenya’s energy sector. These include the proposed Dangote East Africa Petroleum Refinery in Lamu and the South Lokichar oil project in Turkana.

Such developments could increase demand for skilled technicians in welding, pipeline construction and maintenance.

“Our priority is to ensure that Kenya has the technical capacity to participate meaningfully in these investments, reduce reliance on imported expertise and create sustainable employment opportunities for our young people,” he added.

Additionally, he noted that KPC Plc’s investment in MIOG-NP supports national development through skills training, knowledge transfer and workforce development.

MIOG-NP Expands Access to Technical Training

MIOG-NP Director, Dr. Nancy Kosgei, highlighted the Institute’s wide range of training programmes. These include diploma and certificate courses, specialised short courses and international certification programmes.

The Institute offers training in welding, pipeline operations, firefighting, occupational safety, electrical installation and LPG handling and management.

In addition, Dr. Kosgei highlighted the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) programme. This initiative allows experienced artisans to have their practical skills assessed and formally recognised.

As a result, skilled workers can gain recognised qualifications, improve their career prospects and access new opportunities.

Through these programmes, MIOG-NP continues to address skills gaps and prepare professionals for the job market.

Nairobi Roadshow Brings Training Opportunities Closer to Kenyans

The inaugural MIOG-NP Nairobi Roadshow provided a platform for direct engagement with local communities. It also helped raise awareness of available courses, admission pathways and professional certification.

Over the past decade, MIOG-NP has trained more than 6,000 professionals across various technical fields. Consequently, the Institute continues to play a key role in developing technical expertise in Kenya and the wider region.

The roadshow further reflects MIOG-NP’s commitment to making technical training more accessible. Through such initiatives, the Institute aims to equip more Kenyans with skills that meet industry standards.
